Make this easy fruit salad with yogurt the next time you’re craving a healthy snack
This is one of those recipes that seems too good to be so simple. It is perfect for breakfast, as a snack or as an accessory for parties. It’s also perfect for kids!
This healthy dish consists of fresh fruit and a creamy dressing. The deceptively sweet dressing is actually a simple mixture of yogurt and honey.
Try this healthy fruit salad recipe soon and your whole family will surely love it.

How to make a good fruit salad
The key players for a good fruit salad are:
- A good fruit mix – choose fruit that blends well and doesn’t get mushy too quickly. Cut fruits so that they are uniform in size.
- A tasty dressing – something light and sweet.
The dressing is my favorite part of this healthy fruit salad recipe. Mixing plain yogurt with honey creates a dressing that is creamy, but also a perfect combination of sour and sweet.
Most importantly, this yogurt dressing will not overpower the flavors of the fruit.
What are the best fruits for this healthy fruit salad recipe?
It is important to choose fruits with flavors that complement each other. In other words, you don’t want to mix too many fruits with overwhelming flavors. The fruits I like to use in this recipe are:
- Mandarin oranges
- Apples
- Strawberries
- Grapes
I love using these fruits because they taste amazing together, they add just the right amount of crunch and juiciness, and the colors are beautiful together.
This fruit salad is perfect if you are looking for a tangerine recipe
I love using mandarin oranges in this recipe for many reasons:
- They are slightly segmented
- They don’t get mushy or release so much juice that your fruit salad becomes watery.
- The citrus taste of tangerines add a nice acidity it’s not overwhelming.
Mandarins vs Clementines
If you’re like me and you’ve ever wondered the difference between mandarin oranges and clementines, clementines are actually a specific type of mandarin orange.
In fact, they are the smallest type. We call them Easy Peelers in the UK, but you might know them as Cuties if you live in the US.
Use whatever type of tangerine you prefer in this recipe – I like the clementines because their small size is more consistent with the sliced strawberries and grapes.
If you’re looking for a new tangerine or clementine recipe, try this one!

How to prepare this simple fruit salad with yogurt
How often can you say that washing and cutting your produce is the hardest part of a recipe? That’s true for this one!
Making this recipe is easy. First prepare your fruit. Then mix yogurt and honey and adjust the amount of honey to taste. Finally, gently mix the fruit and dressing together.
Can you see why this is one of my favorite recipes? Just three easy steps, and this dish is ready to eat.
Should you cut grapes for fruit salad
Cutting the grapes is not completely necessary. I always cut them though because I like to make the fruits a uniform size. I find that cut grapes make for smaller bites that are easier to eat with a fork too.
TIP: Grapes should always be quartered for any young children who eat this fruit salad.
How to cut strawberries for fruit salad
I always start by cutting the skin off the strawberry. Next, I look at the size of the strawberry. If the strawberry is small, I simply cut it in half. However, I cut larger strawberries into quarters.
The goal is to cut the strawberries to match the size of the clementine slices.
TIP: If you really want to make the colors pop, you can cut off the white parts of the strawberry core to make your fruit salad more vibrant.

How to Make Fruit Salad Yogurt Dressing
Using yogurt creates a light, creamy dressing that binds your fruit salad together. I find this dressing complements the fruit much better than the overly sweet and syrupy dressings used in some conventional fruit salads.
I love yogurt because it doesn’t overpower the flavor of your fruit or make it seem sticky.
This recipe has a lot of room for customization, but I would really stick to plain, plain yogurt for the dressing.
While the Greek yogurt flavor works, I find the texture a bit too thick. Likewise, fruit yogurt would probably taste okay, but the color might not look as nice.
Of course, you can adjust the sweetness by using more or less honey.
Use non-dairy yogurt to make this fruit salad dairy-free
If needed, a simple change makes this fruit salad dairy-free. Just use your favorite soy, almond, or other non-dairy yogurt.
We make this soy yogurt recipe quite often at home since my son can’t eat dairy. It’s a great dairy-free dessert for kids with allergies!

This is a healthy fruit recipe for kids
This is a wonderful fruit salad recipe for toddlers and older children. I actually like to keep a bowl in the fridge for my kid who loves to eat.
Fruit salad is a good option if you want to encourage your children to eat a variety of fruits. The creamy yogurt dressing (which also provides calcium) may even encourage the pickiest of eaters to eat more fruit!
This salad is refined sugar free, but it does contain sugar from honey. It’s easy to reduce the amount of honey you use in this recipe if you want to limit the sugar.
Leave the honey out completely if a few children will be eating this fruit salad.
How to make fruit salad for kids
To make fruit salad for children, it is most important to:
- use healthy ingredients that are also kid-friendly and
- use fruit that children enjoy eating.
Yogurt is healthy for children and is a nice dressing on the fruit.
This kid-friendly recipe also uses familiar fruits that kids often already love. Also, I cut the fruit so it’s easier for little mouths to pick up on a spoon and eat. Other fruits such as pomegranate seeds can be more difficult for young children.
For children, be sure to cut the grapes in half. I would even recommend cutting grapes into quarters for children under four.
Kids can help make this recipe too!
I try to involve my child in the kitchen whenever I can, and we always have a lot of fun.
He was able to help a lot with this recipe. For example, my child helped:
- cut the strawberries,
- slice the apples and
- peel and separate the clementines.
He also loved stirring honey and yogurt, and of course mixing in the fruit.
My son is 3, and he is a great helper! He loves using this set of kid-friendly knives.
For example, he can easily cut strawberries in half after I cut off the hull and lay them flat side down. Before he slices the apples, I just remove the core and lay it on the cutting board face down so it doesn’t roll around.
When he was younger, I started by letting him help cut with a crease like this. This tool is easier for little hands and makes a great activity for working on fine motor skills.
How long does this fruit breakfast last?
This fruit salad will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days. It is best eaten on day one, and then tends to be a little runny as the fruits release more juice.
Make this easy fruit salad to serve at your next brunch
I hope you try this recipe and love it as much as we do! With a busy family, it’s nice to have a healthy snack on hand that’s also good for kids. The yogurt gives a nice touch that makes this fruit salad feel like dessert!
